You've propped your head on the ice cooler, on wadded-up clothes and even on your elbow. But there's a better way to rest around the pool or at the shore, or on your cruise or boat: beachpuffs.

Made in Orlando, the beachpuffs are terry covered pillows in a variety of patterns and bright colors. They come with matching towels for a look that can dress up your pool area and patio.

The idea is "comfort with style" says Wanda Byczkiewicz, president of Sandlake Enterprises, which makes the beachpuffs.

The pillows and towels come in bright beach scenes, with dolphins, shells and other sea life. They also come in solids and animal prints. Mix and match them, add color to a lounge chair, give a plain beach chair some life. They're perfect when you want to rest and read poolside--or enjoy the beach without getting a crink in your neck.

Actually, that's how Wanda got the idea for the beachpuffs. She was living in California and went to the beach with a friend. Tired of resting her head on wadded-up towels, Byczkiewicz took the pillow and blanket from her bed and used them on the sand. "We figured in California anything goes," she said.
"It was so comfortable. And in about 30 seconds I was thinking, why hasn't someone come up with a beach pillow?"

In July, 1999 her husband, Geoffrey Hodges, had to quit his job to run the company since it had grown so big, and the rest is history. Now 8 years in business,beachpuffs can be found in retail shops along the beach, gift shops in hotels and Sandlake's newest division, www.thegiftcloset.net

The beachpuffs make fun gifts, and they're easy to pack so they're great for travel and cruises, even swim meets. One of Sandlake's clients made curtains out of the towels and used the pillows in her bedroom.

The pillows aren't waterproof so you don't want to throw them in the pool, but the terry covering is machine washable and is secured on the pillow with velcro, making the pillows easy for use outside.

With beachpuffs, you don't need to rest your head on your elbow anymore.
